July is Smart Irrigation Month, hosted by the Irrigation Association, and is designed to increase
awareness of the value of water use. As turf professionals, we all know regular irrigation is necessary but there are practices we can do to reduce water use and save a bunch of
money.
How can you be smart this month and every month? Here are some suggestions
outlined by Superintendent Magazine
1. Know your golf course, which areas need more water than
others?
2. Take seminars on water management to improve your
knowledge.
3. Adjust irrigation according to season and angle of the
sun.
4. Consider an irrigation audit. They cost money, but it will probably pay
for itself.
5. Use a soil surfactant, such as Terra Bonne Displace-It to reduce your water use by 25-50% by
increasing penetration of irrigation and reducing water lost to run-off or evaporation.
